(NEW YORK CITY), Nov. 22, 2011 – New York City’s newest cruise line, Hornblower Cruises & Events, is docking its new fleet and leasing office space at Pier 40 in Hudson River Park. Hornblower will contribute to the park’s recreational offerings with a variety of cruise offerings, while generating revenue to support the park’s development. The company’s presence ends a decade-long debate on the usage of one of New York City’s largest and most treasured piers.

Hornblower Cruises four-vessel fleet of luxury entertaining yachts will run dinner, cocktail and sightseeing cruises for the public, in addition to private chartered events, from Hornblower Landing, on North Side of Pier 40. Charters are currently bookable on the eco-friendly Hornblower Hybrid, with public cruises starting in early 2012.

The cruise line will complement existing waterfront recreation on the 14-acre pier, including kayaking, Trapeze School New York and the Pier 40 Sports Field where children and adults compete in soccer, baseball and more. Hornblower’s cruise offerings will also boost revenue to the pier’s parking facility, which sustains a large portion of the park’s operating costs.

“Over the past two decades, Hudson River Park, and especially Pier 40, have become cherished places for the community at large,” said Terry MacRae, CEO of Hornblower Cruises & Events. “We are delighted to enhance it with more waterfront fun and gathering places, while adding to the continuing development and beautification of the Westside.”

The company’s Pier 40 operation will employ 50 people including the many onboard positions the company will fill in 2012, bringing more jobs to the region. Hornblower Cruises & Events joins the Hudson Park River Trust and New York State Park Rangers in the office building located at 353 West St. in New York City.
