Festive Holiday Cruises Offer Dinner and the Best Views on the Big Bay

When Independence Day fireworks sparkle across the San Diego sky, there’s no better view than the one from the water – and Hornblower Cruises & Events invites guests of all ages to take in all the action during this year’s Fourth of July Fireworks Dinner Cruise.

The popular three-hour cruise aboard the Inspiration Hornblower includes dinner, dancing and views of the Port of San Diego’s Big Bay Boom fireworks display. Guests will receive a boarding beverage in a take-home souvenir glass, before sitting down to a gourmet buffet dinner prepared fresh by Hornblower’s experienced chefs. The menu includes salads, pastas, steak, seafood dishes, as well as a dessert bar with favorites such as chocolate-dipped strawberries, cinnamon apple cobbler and New York style cheesecake. Wine and cocktails will be available for purchase.

At 9 p.m., guests move to the windows or outdoors to the sky deck, some 30 feet above the water, to watch the city’s 12th annual Big Bay Boom display. More than 500,000 people a year view San Diego’s famous fireworks, which are set off from four barges on the bay and Imperial Beach Pier. Few locations offer a more patriotic locale, with celebrations set against the backdrop of famous military landmarks such as the U.S.S. Midway, U.S.S. Ronald Reagan and Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado. Proceeds from this year’s fireworks event benefit the San Diego Armed Services YMCA, a group working to enhance the lives of military personnel and their families.

Following the fireworks, guests will enjoy live DJ music and dancing aboard the Inspiration Hornblower.

Tickets for Hornblower’s Fourth of July Fireworks Dinner Cruise are $119 for adults, $71.40 for children ages 4-12 and free for ages 3 and under. Boarding starts at 6:30 p.m. at Hornblower Landing, Grape St. Pier, located at 1800 N. Harbor Drive, San Diego, Calif. 92101. Cruising follows from 7-10 p.m. To reserve seats, call 1-800-On-The-Bay or book online at
